I understand your point, Special Needs Plans for dual eligibles do exist and it's not always the agent that is pushing the plan, especially given the marketing constraints placed by CMS. Dual eligibles themselves often request the plans for the extra benefits. It's an option that they have available and ultimately the choice is theirs. I'm also troubled by your analogy of a "free plan F", as I'm unaware that a free plan F exists. If a free plan F did exist, you would have a valid point.

Great article. I would agree on most everything you have here. I wouldn't agree on your anylisis of when to have an Advantage Plan. There is really never any reason to take someone of Medicare and Medicade, and onto an Advantage Plan of any kind. Agents need to leave those folks alone. They have all they need. That would be like taking someone off a free Plan F and onto an Advantage.

A search of the Medicare website does not have any information on what CMS will do as it relates to Medicare parts A and B premiums. Last year guidance was issued from CMS on 09/19 as it related to 2009 parts A and B premiums. So if there's any consistency, I would continue to check www.medicare.gov in the coming weeks.

Good questions. 1. If you have a Medicare supplement, you would generally purchase a stand alone Part D RX plan. RX is no longer offered as part of a supplement. More people purchase Plan F than any other plan choice. But, as with anything, they should consult with an agent to review the plans to determine which is best for them. 3. With the exception of a Medicare Select plan, which is a network based plan, you are able to go to any provider that accepts Medicare assignment. 4. Medicare beneficiaries receive a "welcome to Medicare physical." For complete details, visit, www.medicare.gov. 5. No. If they are going to keep the employer group, they would not need a Medicare supplement. It is important to note (as stated in a prevoius post), if they are paying a high premium for their group policy and have high out of pocket costs, then they should explore a Medicare supplement. It may be a better alternative.
